SUBJECT:
Improved PWG Accelerator Pedal Sensor
MODEL:
750iL
Situation:
Continuing product improvement has provided a new accelerator pedal sensor for the EML system.
A) Up to week 50/87, pedal sensor P/N 12 72 1 718 749 was installed on 750iL models.
B) As of week 50/87, the 750iL is equipped with the new version, P/N 12 72 1 720 418.
Any previous version pedal sensors (A) still in parts stock may be used on preweek 50/87 vehicles. However, the parts system will now only supply the later version (B) as replacement parts. Consequently, some older vehicles may require additional parts in conjunction with the new version pedal sensor.
Note:
The early version PWG pedal sensor is as dependable and reliable as the later version. Therefore it should only be replaced when it has actually failed, as verified by the Diagnostic Module printout. The printout should include the fault memory and all pertinent test page attached to the old part.
Replacement Procedure:
EARLY VEHICLES (pre-week 50/87)
1) If there is no locating point for the external return spring on the accelerator pedal shaft, the shaft must be replaced with the later version.
2) Replace and adjust pedal sensor and, if required, the accelerator pedal shaft.
3) Push the external return spring over the open end of the pedal shaft and attach in the locating point recess.
