Fuel Pump: Testing and Inspection

Injection Electronics (Motronic Control System) With Automatic Transmission. Wiring Diagram:

1. Remove the auxiliary fuel pump access cover in the trunk.
2. With the ignition OFF remove the auxiliary fuel pump harness connector from the auxiliary fuel pump.
3. Connect a fused jumper between the positive battery terminal and the auxiliary fuel pump electrical socket (female) terminal that corresponds to the green/violet wire.
4. Connect a fused jumper between the remaining terminal on the auxiliary fuel pump socket (female) and ground.

^ The fuel pump should run with a smooth audible humming sound. No interruptions or laboring effort should be detectable.

NOTE: It may be necessary to use a listening device on the pump to check for proper operation. If the fuel pump is suspected to have insufficient output refer to the FUEL SUPPLY for testing procedures.

5. Remove the fused jumpers.
6. Connect the battery positive, fused jumper to the auxiliary fuel pump harness connector (male) that corresponds to the green/violet wire.
7. Connect the grounded fused jumper to the auxiliary fuel pump harness connector (male) that corresponds to the brown wire.

Main Fuel Pump/Fuel Filter:

^ The main fuel pump should run with a smooth audible humming sound. No interruptions or laboring effort should be detectable. If the main fuel pump does not run:

^ Check the wiring between the auxiliary fuel pump and the main fuel pump.
^ If the fuel pump is suspected to have insufficient output refer to the FUEL SUPPLY for testing procedures.
