Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

System Operation

Arming

- Close all doors, windows, sunroof and trunk. (Note: trunk is protected only if the optional trunk input is connected to the system).

- Remove the key from ignition and exit the vehicle.

- Press the TX button on the remote transmitter (on Three Series vehicles wait until interior light goes out before arming vehicle). This will activate your alarm and simultaneously lock all doors. You will also observe that the status LED flashes and the siren emits one "chirp".

Note: The "double lock" feature of the Central Locking System must be performed manually.
Note: Opening a door, trunk (option) or breaking glass when the system is armed will trigger the alarm instantly.

Disarming

There are two ways to disarm the system - by remote control transmitter or by ignition key.

Disarming By Remote Control Transmitter

Press the TX button on the remote transmitter. It will disarm your vehicle and simultaneously unlock all doors. You will also observe that the LED stops flashing and the siren emits two "chirps".

Note: If the vehicle has a manual "double-lock" system (i.e., E24, E28 and E30) the alarm system cannot unlock the doors if this feature has been utilized.

Disarming By Ignition Key

- Enter the vehicle.

Note: This method of disarming will trigger the alarm instantly. Use this method only if you have lost or misplaced your remote control transmitter.

- Insert the ignition key and turn to the "ON" position. The siren will stop and the LED will stop flashing.

Panic Mode

In either armed or disarmed condition, the siren can be activated intentionally in case of emergency.

To Activate The Panic Function

By pressing the TX button on the remote control transmitter and holding it down for approximately two seconds, the siren will sound for one alarm duration (60 seconds). By continuing to press and hold down the TX button, the siren will be activated again.

To Stop The Panic Function

Similar to Disarming, press (but do not hold) the TX button on the transmitter or turn the ignition key to "ON" position.
Tripped Warning and Sensor Indication

When disarming by remote control transmitter, the system will indicate whether your system has been triggered, and which sensor or sensors have been tripped while you were away from your vehicle.

Tripped Warning

If the security system has been triggered during your absence, the system will alert you upon disarming by blinking the status LED twice and emitting three "chirps".

Tripped Sensor Indication

The number of times the status LED flashes after disarming by remote control indicates which sensor has triggered the alarm. The numbers are assigned as follows:

Sensors Number of flashes

Door 1
Trunk (option) 2
Glass Breakage 3

Example 1

If the alarm was triggered by the glass breakage detector, the LED will flash 3 times for 1 minute.

Example 2

If the alarm was triggered twice, first by glass breakage detector and then by opening of a door, the LED will flash 3 times then 1 time alternately for 1 minute.

Note

- The Tripped Sensor Indication will not work when the system is disarmed by the ignition key.

- The memory will be cleared when the ignition is turned "ON" or when the system is armed again.
