Description of On-Board Diagnostic System

Notes on the BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM:

ZV Systems:

The diagnostic program automatically detects which ZV system (decoupling of locking of the locking button) is installed.

Status Monitoring:

The program incorporates precise instructions and notes relating to the tests and troubleshooting.

The ignition can be switched off when testing the door lock and pin contacts.

During simulation of the central locking system ZV outputs, the ZV relays are set as defective. For this reason, the detect code memory is cleared automatically after simulation. Re-detection of defects: Operate central locking system from the vehicle (normal operation with key).

Simulation of the central locking system ZV outputs should be performed only with the ignition ON.

Since attempting to open a locked vehicle from the outside poses considerable problems, at least one window Or one of the rear doors should be kept open during simulation of the outputs.

Notes:

- Troubleshooting with BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM, refer to information provided on screen pages!
- Battery charged, U-min = 12 V
- If All functions of the central body electronics (ZKE) have failed, perform troubleshooting in accordance with Central Body Electronics (ZKE).
- If the electronic power fuse is signaled as defective Or if the fuse is OFF despite the ignition being ON (*D* 027 Electronic power fuse), continue with Central Body Electronics (ZKE), troubleshooting.
- Set the ZV motor drives mechanically as described in Service and Repair.

ZV System with Blocking of ZV Drives

Before starting the troubleshooting procedure, check whether the locking linkage of the driver's and passenger's door is Synchronized. Refer to functional
description Point 1.3. Door lock of driver's and passenger's door.

Important!

When the supply voltage is applied (terminal 30 at Pin A1), the ZKE general module detects which part systems are installed in the vehicle. Undefined coding
when plugging in the module can result in systems not being detected. Therefore:

Disconnect vehicle battery before installing the ZKE general model:!

Or

Disconnect the vehicle battery for at least 5 sec after Installing the ZKE general module.
