Strut Rod
REMOVING AND INSTALLING OR REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT THRUST STRUTRemove front wheel.
Unscrew bolts.
Installation:
Clean threads of bores and bolts.
Install bolts with a bolt cement.
Tightening torque. 93 Nm (67 ft lb)
Check for correct installed position
Unscrew nut.
Press off ball joint with Special Tool 31 1 110.
Installation:
Remove grease on ball pin and in bore.
Replace self-locking nut.
Tightening torque. 93 Nm (67 ft lb)
Unscrew thrust strut (grind on ring wrench for counterholding, if necessary).
Installation:
Replace sell-locking nut.
Use washers on both sides.
Tightening torque for car loaded down to normal position. [1] 127 Nm (92 ft lb)
Important!
Thrust strut mounts must always be installed or replaced in pairs.
[1] Normal position:
Car loaded down with 2 x 68 kg (2 x 150 lbs) of front seats (seats in center position), 1 x 68 kg (1 x 150 lbs) on center of rear seat (not for coupes), 1 x 21 kg (1 x 46 lbs) in middle of trunk, and a full tank of gas.
