Exhaust System: Service and Repair



REMOVING AND INSTALLING EXHAUST ASSEMBLY





- Cars with Catalytic Converter:
Disconnect oxygen sensors.

Note: Mark oxygen sensors before pulling off, don't mix them up.





Remove holder (1)
Only loosen and slide off clamps (2).

Installation
Tightening torque





Unscrew exhaust assembly on the exhaust pipes.

Installation
Check gaskets, replacing if necessary.
Replace self-locking nuts.
Tightening torque.





Unscrew suspension holders on transmission.

Installation
Mount exhaust assembly without tension by adjusting nuts (3).
Tightening torque.





Support the complete exhaust assembly (weight: about 50kg/110 lbs.) with a lifting fixture. Unscrew suspension holders on rear axle carrier.


Installation






Adjust holders by moving tabs on the exhaust and tighten only after complete installation of the exhaust assembly.
Tightening torque.





Unscrew retainers.
Lower the lifting fixture as required.
Remove complete exhaust assembly.

Installation






Mount retainers In such a manner that the rubber rings are preloaded.
Preload A = 12 mm (0.472").
Tightening torque.
