- Inspect the left front "B" pillar for service action label # 22. If the label is present, the EML Control Unit has been updated, Do not replace the updated EML Control Unit.

If the Service Action label is not present, proceed as follows:

- Connect the diagnostic module, call up and print the EML identification page to verify the EML software number (code).

- Survey and print the contents (if any) of the EML fault memory.

- Any EML control unit having a software number of E28/C28 or lower must be replaced with the new updated EML version.



- The new EML control unit must be correctly matched to the existing DME control units.

- Call up and print the DME I & II identification pages while noting the BMW hardware number.



- Using the BMW hardware number of the DME control units found in the vehicle, install the correct, compatible EML control units as shown below.
Note: Under no circumstances may the early and late version EML and DME control unfts be incorrectly matched.

Adaptation: Whenever power is disconnected or EML components are replaced, the
EML system must be re-adapted to synchronize and coordinate system components. The adaption procedure is covered in S.I. 12 06 88 (1669).
