This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.I. 12 10 89 (1979). It provides better control of the update by itemizing the subject vehicles into 3 groups and listing an important change in the repair procedure.
Please remove and discard S.I. 12 10 89 (1979) dated January 1990 from your S.I. binder.
SUBJECT: EML System Update
MODEL: 750iL produced from 8/87 through 10/89
Note: This service action involves three vehicle groups which are designated A, B, and C.
Affected
Vehicles: Chassis No. Range
Group "A" 276 5007 - 277 0000
305 6001 - 305 6836
DC7 4000 - DC7 4904
Group "B" DC7 4905 - DC7 5825
Group "C" DC7 5826 - DC7 6560
Situation: Continuing product refinement and development has produced an EML Control Unit which is an improved version of the unit presently in use.
Complaint: The current EML Control Unit, while completely reliable, can sporadically demonstrate a sensitivity to parameter fluctuations, i.e. battery voltage, extended cranking time etc. At times the EML Control Unit can respond to these fluctuations by switching to failsafe running with the EML fault lamp illuminated.
Corrective
Action: Group "A" - replace EML control unit with updated version (E30/C30 software).
Group "B" - replace EML control unit with updated version (E30/C30 soft-
ware), and replace the DK Motors and the PWG if the DK
Motor date code is 945 through 949.
Group "C" - These vehicles received the updated EML Control Unit in
production, therefore it is only necessary to inspect the DK Motors date code. Replace the DK Motors and the PWG if the DK Motor date code is 945 through 949.
