Enclosure 2 Vehicles With No Air Duct At E-Box
Enclosure 2 to S.I. 61 03 90 (3053)VEHICLES WITH NO AIR DUCT AT E-BOX
Situation: If a 5 Series (E34) or 7 Series (E32) vehicle is encountered that lacks an air duct between the E-Box and the passenger compartment, the following instructions are to be used. DO NOT pierce or cut grommets, or route wires through any grommets other than those named in these instructions.
CAUTION
Extreme care must be taken when routing wires through access holes/grommets in the vehicles. Never puncture seals or "snake" wires through grommets using sharp pointed instruments or tools! Doing so will compromise weather tightness of seals and may cause severe electrical problems resulting from corrosion and/or electrical shorts.
1. In the interior on the firewall (lower right-hand side of passenger footwell) is a large rubber grommet. This grommet is used to route wiring into the engine compartment. See illustration.
Note: On E32 vehicles, the grommet can be seen just below the right rear corner of the glove box (as seen from passenger footwell area). On E34 vehicles, this grommet can be accessed by removing glove box, glove box roof, glove box mounting bracket and air distribution duct.
2. Route accessory wiring through this grommet, into the area below the E-Box. See illustration, detail view. Seal grommet around wire with a generous amount of BMW glass sealing compound (P/N 81 22 9 400 013).
3. Route wiring along existing cables, past E-Box, to forward right hand corner of E-Box support structure through existing grommet.
