Grommet Installation

1. Inspect forward surface of E-Box support structure (in area illustrated) for presence of knockout plug.

2. If knockout plug outline is stamped into metal drill a 3 mm (1/8") pilot hole in center of plug (as illustrated). If knockout plug is not pre-stamped, proceed to step 3.

Do not remove knockout plug. Use care when drilling to avoid flexing stamped area. Protect E-Box from metal shavings.

3. If there is no outline of a knockout plug stamped into the sheet metal, measure to a point (as illustrated) and drill a 3 mm (1/8") pilot hole. Protect E-Box from metal shavings.

4. Enlarge pilot hole, using a 7 mm (9/32") drill.

5. Deburr hole and touch-up exposed metal edges with primer touch-up paint (P/N 51 91 9 061 780).

6. Install rubber grommet for 9/32" hole (3/16 I.D. grommet), supplied by installer. See illustration.

7. Route accessory wiring through this grommet, into engine compartment and to appropriate hook-up location.

8. Seal any air gaps between grommet and metal, and between grommet and wiring, with a generous amount of BMW glass sealing compound, P/N 81 22 9 400 013.
