Description of On-Board Diagnostic System
Notes on the BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM:Control unit identification: The designations "ROM" or "Emulator" identify different versions of the ZV module.
ZVM part Systems: When a system is displayed inversely (white background), then there is a defect code stored for this system (*D* 900 Defect code memory). If the vehicle is not equipped with a door lock heating system, the defect code 01 TSH defective is always stored (ignore defect code in this case!).
Defect code memory: No defect codes are stored within diagnostic mode. After clearing the defect code memory (*D* 999) diagnostic mode is therefore terminated with the ZVM program. An information page is displayed on the screen. Defects are detected within this phase and stored in the defect code memory.
It is possible that the defect code memory is cleared on its own accord within diagnostic mode. Therefore, always print out the contents of the defect code memories!
Switch oft ignition: After starting the diagnostic procedure, it is possible that the ignition is switched off within the status lists. If diagnostic mode is terminated when the ignition is switched oft (e.g. due to fault or detaching the diagnostic connector), the ignition must be switched on in the vehicle in order to resume the diagnostic procedure.
Troubleshooting:
Notes:
- Troubleshooting with the BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM
- Battery charged, U-min = 12 V
- Remove and install the central locking module (ZVM) only when the ignition is off.
- Generally, troubleshooting is performed in accordance with the instructions given in the BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- For notes and instructions relating to repair work on the central locking system (ZV), as well as notes on mechanical setting, refer Central Locking System (ZV)
Important!
- Test lock and pin contacts in accordance with Component Testing (ZKE central locking system).
- For mechanical detects, see troubleshooting in Central Locking System (ZV/ZKE)
