Camshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation

Cylinder I.D. Sensor:

The M3.1 system uses an inductive pulse generator for cylinder recognition. The trigger for the sensor is bolted to the front of the intake cam gear. Input from the sensor is used to set up the firing order of the coils and the full sequential injection. If the signal is faulty, the control unit switches to parallel injection and double ignition.
