Interior Lights (IB/ZVM):

These Instructions apply when a central locking module is installed in the 5 Series E32 up to and including model year 1991.

In this system, the ZV motor drives are blocked after setting the vehicle in arrest mode.

If the vehicle is equipped with a ZKE general module, carry out troubleshooting on the interior light control system In accordance with Interior Lights (ZKE).

Refer to Central Locking Module (ZVM) for description of operating principle of the central locking module.

Functional Description:

General Block Diagram:

With the interior light switch, the interior lights (interior lighting - IB) can be switched to "continuous light", OFF or "automatic mode" (controlled by the central locking module). In automatic mode, the switch-on time is influenced by door contacts, ignition lock position, central locking system and door handle.

In automatic mode, the interior lighting is switched via the interior light relay (IB relay). Place of installation: Rear power distribution box. The relay switches ground to the IB switch. The IB relay itself is switched by the central locking module (ZVM) irrespective of the setting of the IB switch.

Switch-On Times:

- 1. Door open: Interior light switched on for up to 16 minutes.
- 2. Opening and closing driver's door: After closing the door, the interior lights continue to light for approx. 20 seconds but switch off as of ignition lock position 1 (terminal R).
- 3. Opening and closing driver's door, locking door: The interior light switches off as the vehicle is locked.
- 4. Switching off the ignition when parking light was switched on: Interior light remains switched on for up to 20 seconds.

- 5. Lifting door handle: Interior light is switched on for approx. 10 seconds (maximum of three times within 10 minutes).

When a door is left open, the interior lights are switched off after approx. 16 minutes in order to save the battery. The light is switched on again after
closing and opening the door.

Important!

The interior light functions:
- Switching on via door handle contact,
- Automatic switch on after ignition off when parking light was switched on beforehand, assume that a door lock heating system is installed.

Rear doors:

The rear door contacts are not connected to the central locking module.
