Defect Code 03:

Initialization cannot be performed:

Note: The initialization transmit line INIT-S from the IR logic module to the indicator unit is not included in the diagnostic procedure. The initialization code is sent from the logic module to the indicator unit via this line. The IR transmitter receives the code from the indicator unit via infrared diodes.

Troubleshooting:

- To initialize the IR transmitter, ensure it is placed straight on the indicator unit. The LED of the IR transmitter must face towards the operator (or rear of vehicle).

- When the transmitter is correctly positioned: *D* Carry out all tests A to H. Rectify defect in accordance with instructions in the BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.

- If no defect is found during diagnostic procedure: Repair INIT-S wire from the indicator unit Pin 3 to the 26-pin connector at the IR logic module Pin 11.
