Description of On-Board Diagnostic System
Notes on the BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM:The infrared system has no defect code memory. The diagnostic procedure is performed by a test sequence incorporated in the program.
To perform diagnostics, terminal R must be switched on in the vehicle. Since the transmitter is necessary for checking receivers and the indicator, a second vehicle key or a second infrared transmitter should be kept at hand.
It is not necessary to use an infrared transmitter (initialized) belonging to the vehicle system for diagnostic procedures. Any infrared transmitter in working order can therefore be used to check the indicator and receivers. This infrared transmitter is not initialized during the checking procedure.
