Removing/Installing Front Spring Strut Assembly
REMOVING AND INSTALLING LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SPRING STRUT ASSEMBLYRemove front wheel.
Disconnect plugs for brake pad wear indicator and EDC (if equipped).
Unscrew ground lead.
Disconnect wires and brake hose in holder on spring strut.
Remove ABS pulse sender.
Unscrew brake caliper and suspend from body on a piece of wire - brake hose remains connected.
Unscrew stabilizer push rod, counterholding with an open-ended wrench.
Installation:
Wrench surface on ball pin parallel to the absorber axle.
Replace self-locking nut.
Tightening torque. 22 Nm (16 ft lb)
Unscrew bolts.
Installation:
Clean threads of bores and bolts.
Install bolts with a bolt cement.
Tightening torque. 93 Nm (67 ft lb)
Check for correct installed position.
Lift off cap.
Support spring strut shock absorber.
Unscrew spring strut mount on wheel house.
Installation:
Replace self-locking nuts.
Tightening torque. 22 Nm (16 ft lbs)
Important!
Always store shock absorbers in upright position.
If shock absorbers are stored laying down with their piston rods moved in this could cause a knocking noise when used in car again.
Remedy:
Store shock absorbers standing upright and with piston rods moved out at ambient temperature for 24 hours.
