1. Raise and support rear of vehicle and trailing arm using a suitable jack.
2. On models with ride control, proceed as follows:
a. Disconnect and bridge low pressure switch wire connector, then turn on ignition.
b. Disconnect control rod. Do not disconnect ball joint, as this may damage the plastic socket.
c. Turn control rod lever to the discharge position, and allow system to discharge for approximately 20 seconds.
d. Remove pressure line.
3. On all models, remove lower shock end mounting bolt at arm, Fig. 7.
4. Remove centering plate from upper end in wheel house area.
5. Remove assembly.
6. Compress coil spring using suitable tool, then disassemble shock absorber from coil spring.
7. When assembling, make sure spring ends line up with notches in rubber spring insulator.
8. On models with ride control, ensure pressure line is inserted in slot of holder on the wheel house side.
9. On all models, install assembly with damping ring on top end.
