Notes on the BMW Diagnostic System

NOTES ON BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM

The diagnostic program for the BC V consists of the following points:

Read defect code memory, status monitoring, test procedure, test code, clear defect code memory.

Status monitoring involves inputs (input information for the control unit, e.g. terminal "R") and outputs (systems which can be activated by the control unit, e.g. gong). These status inquiries make it possible to quickly check whether the actual status of the inputs/output agrees with the set status.

In the point "test procedure", all systems linked with the on-board computer can be checked by way of activation:

Test point 1: "LEDs and LCD elements"; test of LEDs and segments of BC V displays

Test point 2: "Gong T1"; activation of gong T1

Test point 3: "Gong T2"; activation of gong T2

Test point 4: "Central indicator lamp"; activation of central indicator lamp (only in vehicles with check module)

Test point 5: "Code function" (drive-away protection)

Test point 6: "Antitheft horn"

Test point 7: "Timer" (output for independent heating/ventilation if installed)

Test code, clear/read defect code memory with subsequent troubleshooting is arranged in the same way as the other already known programs.
