The Digital Motor Electronic (DME) limits the maximum speed by cutting out the injector valves.

Vehicles with Electronic Throttle Control
On these vehicles, the maximum engine speed is limited by the Electronic Throttle Control (EML). Limitation takes place directly by reducing the throttle angle.
