Code 29 (Vehicle Speed Signal)

VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL
Explanation
This trouble code is stored when the road speed signal is not plausible while driving. The prerequisite for this is an engine speed >4500 rpm at high load for at least 10 sec and a vehicle speed less than 3 mph (3-5 km/h).

NOTE: This defect code can be ignored on models equipped with electronic throttle control. In these models, the vehicle speed signal is not routed to the Digital Motor Electronic (DME) control unit but rather to the Electronic Throttle Control (EML) control unit.

Troubleshooting
- If the indicated speed (speedometer) is "OK", check wire to the Digital Motor Electronic (DME) control unit. If no faults are found, check the instrument cluster.
- Proceed with displayed scan tool diagnostic instructions where applicable.
