SUBJECT: Error in "Gear Lever Position" Status Calls

MODELS: 325i (E36)


Situation:
In the E36 V1.0 diagnostic program, the status displays may indicate an incorrect gear lever position relative to the respective circuit board conductor codes.

The high/low (1/0) status of the circud board conductors does however, indicate the correct status of the circuit.








Solution:
If the gear lever position status given by the Service Tester is incorrect, compare the status of the circuit board conductors to the following chart to determine gear lever position.


An error is also present in the "BMW E36-3 SERIES Electrical Troubleshooting Manual, Diagnostic Procedures Model Year 1992".


The seven emboldened and underlined figures should be corrected on page 2460.2A-15 of the Model Year 1992 E36 Diagnostic Procedures Manual.

A supplement or a diagnostic diskette will soon be available in which these errors have been removed.
