Axle Shaft Assembly: Service and Repair



Removing and installing or replacing left or right output shaft

Remove back wheel. Wheels

Remove rear exhaust. Exhaust System

Unscrew stabilizer on rear axle carrier and tilt down.




Unscrew collar nut (1).

Installation note:

Replace and lubricate collar nut with oil.

Tightening torque:
M22 200 Nm (148 ft lb)
M24 250 Nm (185 ft lb)
M27 300 Nm (222 ft lb)

Lock collar nut.




Unscrew bolts, take output shaft off of final drive flange and suspend from car on piece of wire.

Installation note:

Use washers (1).

Tightening torque:
Fillister head bolt M10 83 Nm (61 ft lb)
with locking teeth M10 96 Nm (71 ft lb)
M12 110 Nm (81 ft lb)
Torx Bolt M10 83 Nm (61 ft lb)
with ribbed teeth M10 100 Nm (74 ft lb)
Black M10 100 Nm (74 ft lb)
Silver (replace) M10 80 Nm (59 ft lb)
M12 135 Nm (100 ft lb)





Secure special tool 33 2 111/116/117 with 2 wheel studs and press off output shaft.

Caution! Prevent the output shaft from falling down.

Note: Apply parking brake if necessary.




Pull in output shaft using special tools 33 2 115/116/119.




M3: Pull in output shaft using special tools 33 2 115/116/118.
