Fuel Tank: Service and Repair
Fuel Pump Access Cover Location:
REMOVE AND INSTALL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable and insulate.
2. Draw off enough fuel to make the fuel tank manageable during removal.
WARNING: Take all precautions necessary to prevent fire! No smoking or open flames near the work area; remove drop lights; have a fire extinguisher near, etc.
3. Remove the trunk carpet.
4. Remove the trunk trim panels.
5. Unscrew the retaining screws and remove the fuel pump access cover.
Fuel Pump Connections:
6. Mark the fuel hoses.
7. Loosen the clamps and remove the fuel hoses.
8. Pull the slide retainer to the side and disconnect the electrical connector.
9. Remove the rubber boot from around the filler neck inlet.
Expansion Tank Access:
10. Remove the right rear wheel.
11. Unscrew the access cover screws and remove the access cover.
Vent Hose Location:
12. Loosen the clamps and pull the vent hoses from the expansion tank.
13. Support the fuel tank from underneath with an appropriate device.
14. Unscrew the heat shield mounting screws and remove the heat shield.
15. Remove the fuel tank mounting strap bolts and remove the fuel tank.
16. Check and replace the plastic sheets and liners for the mounting straps as necessary.
Insulator Locations:
17. Check for damage to the fuel tank or mounting hardware.
18. Check liners and edge guards. Replace if necessary.
Fuel Tank Stop Locations:
19. Check the stops. Replace if necessary
20. Reinstall in reverse manner.
