Antitheft System (DWA)
Antitheft System (DWA):Functional Description:
The task of the antitheft system is to detect attempts to break into the vehicle. Give acoustic and visual warnings and to prevent the engine from being started by a start blocking facility. The antitheft system is armed (switched on) and disarmed (switched off) by means of the door locks and (if installed) the infrared locking system.
System Components:
The antitheft system consists of:
- Control unit
- Status LED
- Antitheft horn
- External switches
Function:
The operating elements of the system are the door locks and the infrared locking system. The command to arm/disarm is given at these operating elements. The system monitors the rear defogger (closed-circuit current loop), driver's/passenger's door, rear doors, front lid (engine hood), radio, rear lid, battery access, rear seat, vehicle towing, glove box, ignition lock.
Rest status after arming:
If an element to be monitored is not in the rest position (e.g. door open), the status LED flashes until either the switch is in rest position (door closed) or the flashing time (=10 seconds) has elapsed.
The trigger inhibit time (=10 seconds) is started with the transition to the "armed" status. This means no switch is monitored during this period of time.
After the inhibit time has elapsed, all switches are included in the alarm monitoring system. During the trigger inhibit time, a signal change at a switch results in the inhibit time being restarted.
If, after the inhibit time has elapsed, a switch is moved into the rest position (e.g. opened door is closed), then the trigger inhibit time is started once again. In this case, however, the trigger inhibit applies only to this one particular switch. Unwanted alarms (e.g. doors not closed correctly) are prevented in this way.
After the system has been armed, the status LED lights for 36 hours. If an alarm is triggered, an acoustic alarm (antitheft horn) is given for a duration of 30 seconds (ECE: Intermittent tone, CH: Continuous tone). A visual alarm is also given for approx. 5 minutes (ECE: hazard warning lights + low beam, FRG: Hazard warning lights in compliance with revised StVZO (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards]).
Expansion as of Model Year 1989:
As of model year 89 an auxiliary module with inclination monitor is avail- able as an optional extra.
Installation location: Left rear side of luggage compartment behind out- side wall and trim panel.
Auxiliary module:
The auxiliary module increases the number of inputs of the DWA control unit.
Inclination monitor:
The inclination monitor detects changes in the angle of inclination of the parked vehicle by electrochemical means.
Interior protection:
The large side windows and windscreen/rear window are monitored by the antitheft (DWA) version with the auxiliary module. Breaking of the windows is detected by Reed contacts which are mounted on the bottom end of the windows.
If the side windows are not closed and the antitheft system (DWA) is armed, the LED flashes. A maximum gap of 1 cm can remain open for passenger room ventilation.
Notes:
The rear window is not monitored by the antitheft system (DWA) as of model year 89 without the auxiliary module.
