1. Before commencing any work, Service Precautions
2. Remove steering wheel, refer to STEERING WHEEL.
3. Remove bottom dashboard trim panel.
4. Remove collar from center shaft, Fig. 1.
5. Remove upper column cover.
6. Remove universal joint bolt, Fig. 2.
7. Mark alignment of splines.
8. Remove shear bolts with chisel or grind off head.
9. Remove self locking nuts, then instrument cluster.
10. Disconnect electrical connectors to steering column, then press down and remove column.
Installation
1. Connect electrical connectors, then install hooks of steering column located in guide sleeves. Tighten bolts.
2. Install LH and RH lever, sliding cover, steering column slide, rubber mount and washer, Fig. 3. Tighten bolts.
3. Install and tighten lower column shear bolts until head snaps off.
4. Align shaft splines. Torque shaft adjusting nut to 5.5 ft. lbs.
5. Install joint. Joint bolt must be in locking groove of steering spindle, Fig. 2.
6. Install remaining parts in order of removal noting the following:
a. Ensure circlip is seated in collar.
b. Perform steering angle offset test.
