Positive Crankcase Ventilation: Description and Operation
Fig. 14 Positive Crankcase Ventilation System:
PURPOSE
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system directs crankcase "blowby" to the intake system in order to prevent vapors from escaping to the atmosphere.
Components of the PCV system include:
^ Valve cover
^ PCV hose
OPERATION
The valve cover contains a baffle system that is bolted to the inside of the cover. When the engine is running, the crankcase is subjected to throttled vacuum, drawing blow-by and other crankcase vapors into the intake manifold.
