Disassembling and Assembling Starter Gear Box

DISSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING STARTER MOTOR GEARBOX

- Starter Removed -






- Unscrew heat shield (if applicable).
- Unscrew bracket.
- Note spacers.






- Remove solenoid switch.
- Unscrew both studs.


Installation:
Clean all parts thoroughly prior to assembling.






Disconnect motor (1) and gearbox (2).

Installation:
Groove (3) must be aligned with rubber part (4).






Unscrew protective cap. Take off retainer (1) and shims (2).


Installation:
Check axial play, correcting if necessary.






Check armature shaft, removing burrs if necessary.
Take off cover.






Prevent the carbon brushes from springing out by inserting a size 22 mm wrench socket or pipe with an outside diameter of approx. 30 mm (1.181").






Installation:
Use a wrench socket or pipe again to make Installation easier.
Place the entire unit on the gearbox and then tighten the wire connector.






Take off cover and rubber block.
