SUBJECT:
BMW "Bavaria Business RDS" Radio
MODELS:
All military sales vehicles specially equipped
Situation:
Some BMW vehicles sold through the "Military Sales" program are being equipped with a special radio. This radio, normally for use in European countries has the ability to be reprogrammed at the dealership to be compatible with U.S. FM/AM radio frequencies. The radio is manufactured by Pioneer and can be serviced through the U.S. Pioneer service network. Such radios are labeled "BMW BAVARIA C BUSINESS RDS" on the faceplate.
Correction:
In case of a customer request to change the radio for U.S. frequency compatibility on a recently imported "military sales" vehicle, the following simple procedure can be performed to reprogram the radio. Note that the radio can also be reprogrammed back to European compatible reception frequencies if desired.
Only the BMW Bavaria Business RDS radio has this special feature; radios currently sold as standard in U.S. vehicles cannot be reprogrammed in this manner. (Customers with a standard U.S. BMW radio requesting modifications should contact the radio manufacturer's representative in the country of their destination.)
1. The radio must already have the code number entered.
2. Turn the radio ON, and place the radio in the FM mode by pressing the "FM" button.
3. Turn the radio OFF.
4. Turn the radio ON, and immediately press the "*" button.
5. Immediately press the "1" and "4" buttons simultaneously.
6. The radio is in the service mode. "SERVICE" is shown in the display.
7. Press the SEEK UP button (right arrow) 7 times. The display shows "REGION."
8. Press the number button "2" for "AMERICA." (Button "1" is for "EUROPE.")
9. Turn the radio OFF. The radio is now programmed for compatible frequencies.
Warranty Status:
If a Bavaria RDS radio fails in the U.S. while covered under the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty, replace the radio unit with a standard U.S. exchange radio. Consult the appropriate parts microfiche for the part number of the correct exchange unit. Return the defective Bavaria RDS radio to the WPRC, following existing part return procedures.
