SUBJECT: "Whistling" Noise from Center Outlets - IHKR II/III

MODELS: 5 Series (E34) - produced 1/90 and later





Situation: Under certain condition (e.g., "max warm" position of mixing flap thumbwheel selected, blower speed 3 or 4 selected), a "whistling" noise may occur at the center outlets.

Cause: Different degree of sealing between left and right sides of the mixing flap.

Correction: If this complaint is encountered, the sealing quality of the mixing flap can be improved by increasing its angle of rotation.

This is accomplished by performing the following:

1) Remove mixing flap stepper motor.

2) File away the areas shown (arrows) in the illustrations below. Remove a maximum of one millimeter from the face of the flap driver in each of the two areas shown.


3) Reinstall stepper motor.
