Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair

Before commencing any work, Refer to Air Bag Systems, Service Precautions. Service Precautions
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Reach through louver grills with a suitable screwdriver and remove upper mounting screws.
3. Open glove compartment door and remove mounting screws.
4. Close glove compartment door, then remove lower mounting screws.
5. Pull glove compartment from dash panel, disconnect wiring connectors.
6. On models with passengers air bag, lift cover off passengers air bag, then remove mounting screws, disconnect and remove air bag.
7. Remove clock and frame or multi information display, as equipped, as follows:
a. On models with clock, insert a suitable 0.035 to 0.040 inch feeler gauge between clock and frame at bottom, then pry out and disconnect clock.
b. On models with clock, insert a suitable 0.035 to 0.040 inch feeler gauge between frame and shelf at bottom left end, then pry out frame as feeler gauge is moved to right.
c. On models with multi information display, insert a suitable 0.035 to 0.040 inch feeler gauge between multi information display and shelf at bottom right end.
d. On models with multi information display, pry out multi information display as feeler gauge is moved to left disengaging clips.
8. Pry out and disconnect shelf unit.
9. Pull knobs from A/C and heater control unit, then remove screws found behind knobs and pry off front panel.
10. Push back, disconnect, then remove A/C and heater control unit.
11. Remove steering wheel as described under "Steering Wheel, Replace.
12. Remove instrument cluster mounting screws, then pull rearward from dash panel.
13. Disconnect and remove instrument cluster.
14. Remove both A pillar trims, then trim from lower righthand dash.
15. Remove screws for trim of lower lefthand dash, then slide trim to left to release clips.
16. Remove shift knob, then shifter trim plate.
17. Lift out rear ash tray, then pry out screw trim caps from rear console.
18. Remove rear console mounting screws then lift out rear console.
19. Remove front console mounting screws then front console.
20. Remove trim frames from dash defroster vents, then using a suitable right angle drive screwdriver, mounting screws.
21. Remove mounting bolts from right and lefthand end of dash panel.
22. Disconnect any connectors and components routed through or mounted to dash panel.
23. Remove dash panel from vehicle.
24. Remove any components or wiring from dash panel necessary to complete repair.
25. Reverse procedure to install, ensure all dash panel mounting clips and pegs are in place.
