Convertible Top: Adjustments
ADJUSTING ELECTRIC TOP DRIVE:
- Turn ignition key to "O" position.
- Raise trunk lid.
- Unclip clips (1) and lower trunk trim panel.
- Disconnect plug (1).
- Connect plug (1) on test box 61 1 459 with help of adapter 61 4 450.
- Don't connect control unit!
- Connect microswitch test box 61 4 440 on test box.
Red plug B+ or pin 19
Black plug ground
Blue plug pin 20
Yellow plug pin 5 (microswitch S1)
Green plug pin 6 (microswitch S2)
- Turn ignition key to "R" position.
- Disengage top storage box lid drive and unlock top storage box lid.
- Disengage top drive.
- Take microswitch test box out of trunk and shut trunk lid.
Top Closed:
- Unlock top on cowl panel and lift at front end.
- Position top tensioning bow upright and open top storage box lid.
Top Opened:
- Open top storage box lid and lift top out of storage box.
- Position top tensioning bow upright.
NOTE:
- If top cannot be lifted out of top storage box, reconnect control unit, engage top drive and run top out of storage box electrically.
- If electric operation is not possible, press top in storage box completely and press out top push rod (2) firmly.'
- Unscrew screws and take off cover.
Installation:
- Lock screws with Loctite No.270.
- Tightening torque = 10 Nm (7 ft.lbs.)
- Unscrew screws (1 and 2).
- Remove linkage from above.
- Screw in screw.
- Apply Special Tool 54 3 420 on screws.
- Turn drive lever (1) clockwise to "S1" position.
- Center of bore (2) and notch (3) must be aligned.
- Adjust microswitch S1 with a long screwdriver (30 cm long, 5 mm tip width) until yellow LED just lights up.
NOTE: Turning clockwise = LED begins to light up. Turning counterclockwise = LED goes out.
- Turn drive lever (1) counterclockwise to "S2" position.
- Adjust microswitch S2 until green LED just goes out.
NOTE: Turning clockwise = LED goes out. Turning counterclockwise = LED begins to light up.
- Turn drive lever (1) to positions "S1" and "S2", and check adjustment of microswitches.
- Turn drive lever (1) to "S1" position.
- Remove Special Tool 51 3 420.
- Position top tensioning bow upright.
- Loosen locknut (4) and adjust length of push rod for top tensioning bow (5) that it can be connected on trailing lever (6) without tension.
- Tighten locknut (4).
- Screw in and lock lockscrew for push rod (5) with Loctite No 270.
- Loosen locknut (3) and adjust length of top push rod (2) that it can be connected on drive lever (1) without tension.
- Takeoff top push rod (2) and then shorten by one complete turn.
- Turn drive lever (1) counterclockwise until top push rod (2) can be connected.
- Screw in and lock lockscrew for top push rod (2) with Loctite No. 270.
- Place top in storage box by hand.
- Lift out top again slowly and check distance (D) between drive lever (1) and trailing lever (6).
Distance D = at least 3 mm (0.118").
- If necessary, shorten push rod for top tensioning bow slightly.
- Close top until top tensioning bow is upright.
- Engage top drive and top storage box lid drive.
- Connect control unit.
- Check function.
- Run top into storage box completely.
- Disengage top storage box lid drive and top drive.
- Open top storage box lid and check whether top can be lifted out of storage box by hand.
Important! Deviating adjustment of microswitch "Si" is permitted only when top cannot be lifted out of storage box by hand in spite of correctly disengaged drive.
- Turn adjusting screw for microswitch "S1" counterclockwise one half turn.
- Engage top drive and run top out of and back In storage box electrically.
- Disengage top drive and check whether top can be lifted out of storage box by hand
- Repeat these procedures until top can be lifted out of storage box by hand.
- Close top electrically until top storage box lid begins to close.
- Detach push rod to top tensioning bow in this position.
- Check whether trailing arm (6) can still be turned clockwise (i.e. no self restriction between drive lever and trailing lever).
- If trailing lever can no longer be moved (self restriction), exchange drive lever, trailing lever and, if applicable, top drive.
Installation:
- Lubricate surface between drive lever and trailing lever lightly with Polylub GLY 801.
- Install cover and lock screws with Loctite No 270.
- Position top tensioning bow upright.
- Engage top and top storage box lid drives.
- Install trunk trim panel.
