Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Diagnostic System Notes
The component functions and signals listed below are processed or controlled by the IHKR2/3 control unit but not stored as a defect code in the case of defect.

- Speed signal output from instrument cluster
- * All buttons in the operating unit
- * Signal from terminal 61
- Voltage supply of function LEDs
- Control of function lighting for push buttons
- Diagnostic links RxD/TxD to BMW Service Tester

* These component functions and signals can be read out in the status lists of the BMW diagnostic system.

Defect Code Memory
The defect code remains stored in the defect code memory of the IHKR2/3 control unit even after disconnecting the battery. Once the defect has been rectified. the defect code memory can be cleared with the BMW Service Tester or the MoDiC.

The display "current defect" indicates that the defect currently exists. The component or the function is then not used by the control unit. If a "defect current" applies to the temperature sensors or control wheels, a substitute value provided by the control unit is used for these components. The substitute value is replaced by the current value when the defect no longer applies. If the defect occurs several times "defect occurred several times" is displayed.
