Crankshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection
Sender Terminal Identification:
RESISTANCE TEST
- Disconnect the sensor harness connector.
- Measure the resistance between terminal 1 and 2 of the sensor.
Resistance should be 540 ± 50 ohms.
- Measure the resistance between terminals (1 and 3) and terminals (2 and 3).
Resistance should be Greater than 100 K ohms.
If the correct measurements are not obtained, replace the sensor.
DYNAMIC TEST
- Disconnect the sensor harness connector.
- Connect an oscilloscope between terminal 1 and 2 of the sensor connector.
- Crank the engine.
Oscilloscope Display:
- If the oscilloscope pattern does not resemble the reference pattern, check for:
a. Improper positioning, debris, or damaged sensor. Distance between sensor and increment wheel = 1.0 mm ± 0.3 mm.
b. Damaged increment wheel or vibration damper. Refer to INCREMENT WHEEL. Testing and Inspection
If the increment wheel is OK and the sensor is properly installed, replace the sensor.
