Resonance Charging

DESCRIPTION
This control system is designed to improve the torque progression and engine performance. Vibrations in the air manifold are utilized to improve cylinder charging.

The following components are used for this purpose:

- Control unit in the E-box

- Electrical switchover valve on left-hand side of engine

- Vacuum reservoir and non-return valve

- Vacuum cell on air manifold

- Resonance control valve in air manifold

OPERATION
The resonance control valve is open in the rest status; the vacuum cell is vented. As soon as the full load contact is closed and the engine speed is below 4150 rpm or above 6750 rpm, the changeover valve is activated by the control unit. Vacuum is supplied to the vacuum cell, thus closing the resonance control valve. The non-return valve and the pressure reservoir maintain the vacuum supply even under the most unfavorable conditions (fast opening of throttle valve).
