4. Remove exhaust system heat shield.
5. Remove tunnel support crossmember or bracket.
6. Remove nuts and bolts securing propeller shaft flex disc to transmission. To prevent propeller shaft vibration do not apply twisting force to flange when removing nuts from bolts.
7. Remove bolts securing center bearing, pull shaft down from center to disengage centering pin at coupling, then secure shaft aside. On models equipped with a sliding joint at center bearing, loosen gland nut before pulling center of shaft down.
8. Disconnect electrical connector from back-up lamp switch and release wiring from retaining straps.

17. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. On propeller shafts less sliding joint, preload center bearing 0.079-0.157 inch toward front of vehicle before tightening retaining bolts.
b. On propeller shafts with a sliding joint, tighten gland nut, then preload center bearing 0.157-0.235 inch toward front of vehicle before tightening retaining bolts.
c. Esure transmission is centered to crossmember.
d. Ensure Torx type transmission to engine bolts are installed with a washer.
