Notes on the BMW Diagnostic System
General
The terminal R (ignition switch in position 1 or 2) must be switched on in order to start the diagnostic procedure. The ignition can, however, be switched off again and the ignition key removed from the ignition switch after output of the identification page. In this way, it is possible to check the door locks for instance without the need for a second key.
Note: In a series of modules, the diagnostic procedures can only be performed when the vehicle is unlocked and the terminal R is switched on. Also in this case, the ignition can be switched off again and the vehicle locked after output of the identification page.
Defect Code Memory
The module can detect a large number of defects and store them in a defect code memory. The stored defect codes are retained even after disconnecting the battery or removing the module.
A defect code counter indicates how often a defect has occurred. The defect code memory does not, however, indicate whether the defect is a current defect or not.
Test Procedure
All electrical components of the central locking system can be checked by means of the *D* test procedure.
In the BMW MoDIC, the components are checked by way of *D* status monitoring or by *D* component activation.
Activate ZV Motor Drives
Activation of the ZV drives is possible within the guided test procedure. However, to prevent unauthorized manipulations, this function is linked to a series of conditions. Activation is only possible when:
- The vehicle was unlocked before the first activation.
- The ignition switch is in position 1 or 2.
- At least one door (front or rear) is open.
