Temperature Regulation
IHKR E36 TEMPERATURE REGULATION
Temperature Regulation:
As on IHKR E34, cabin temperature regulation is accomplished by controlling the amount of hot coolant that flows through the heater cores.
A normally-open water valve is placed at the inlet to each heater core, and each valve contains a solenoid which is pulsed dosed by the IHKR E36 control module to regulate coolant flow.
Valve "open" time increases with increasing Y-factor, but E36 vehicles have another "valve open time" factor since they do not have an auxiliary coolant pump: engine speed.
The IHKR control module monitors engine speed (TD signal) and reduces "valve open time" as engine speed increases.
