COMPARATIVE OVERVIEW







The locking and unlocking of the lock actuators is controlled from three relays in the control module. The door lock actuator "Pin Contacts" and lock micro-switches provide the inputs to the control module for locking/double locking and unlocking of the doors, trunk, fuel filler flap (and glove box on the E36iC only).

The relays in the module provide both power and ground depending on the direction of actuator movement (lock/unlock).

Features of the central locking system on the E36 and Z3 have changed depending on model year and which version of control module is used to control the system. The following is a listing of the major features of the system by model and year:

1992 - 1993 E36 - ZVM control
- Central locking/unlocking from both doors and the trunk.
- Double locking from the driver's door only
- Valet locking for the trunk

1994 E36 - 2 and 4 door - ZKE IV control
- Central locking/unlocking from both front doors
- Double locking from both front doors
- Central locking (only from the trunk)
- Single stage locking from door locks (1-94, direct double lock when locked from outside)
- Comfort closing from both front door locks
- Anti-theft drive away protection feature with double lock
- Valet locking for the trunk

1994 E36iC - ZKE IV control
- Central locking/unlocking/double locking from both doors
- Central locking (only from the trunk)
- Single stage locking from door locks (1-94, direct double lock when locked from outside)
- Comfort closing from both front doors
- Central locking of the glove box
- Trunk locked when top is in operation
- Anti-theft drive away protection feature with double lock

1995 E36 - ZKE IV control
- EWS II drive away protection system added to 95 models as of 1/95

1996 E36 - ZKE IV control
- Interior lock button added to center console (Single locks doors and trunk - not fuel filler)
- Full vehicle locking/unlocking from doors and trunk
- Sunroof added to comfort closing feature
- Fully automatic convertible top added to comfort closing feature ('97 vehicles).

1996 Z3 - ZVM control
- All features of ZVM plus EWS II drive away protection

1997 Z3 - ZKE IV control
- Full ZKE control without central locking button, lockable fuel filler flap or glove box.
