SUBJECT:
Synthetic Oils for Final Drives

MODELS:
All

Situation:
All models introduced in 1994 are factory filled with an improved lubricant in the final drive which represents a distinct improvement over existing lubricants in terms of resistance to extreme temperatures, aging, seal compatibility, and wear protection.

Action:
With the release of the synthetic final drive oil for both vehicles with or without limited-slip differentials, mineral based final drive oils are no longer recommended. The only recommended final drive oils are these synthetic oils for vehicles of all production dates.

However, mineral based oil can be used in vehicles produced up to Model Year 1991 until stock is exhausted.

Parts Information:

These oils are available under the part numbers:

NOTES:
One container of the BMW Synthetic Final Drive Oil for multi-plate limited-slip differentials will be sent to each dealership via automatic shipment. If your dealership had placed an order for this fluid before the automatic shipment is sent, your dealership will not receive an additional container via the automatic shipment.

When stock of the mineral based oil is depleted at the PDCs, they will no longer stock the mineral based final drive oil. A limited quantity of mineral based final drive oil is still available from the PDCs in 15 gallon drums under part number 33 00 1 468 206.

Please take advantage of this opportunity to use up remaining stocks of mineral based fluids in vehicles produced up to Model Year 1991.
