CONTROL UNIT INSTALLATION - 3 SERIES

1. See Figure 1. Remove the single screw behind each of the vent diffusers above glove compartment.

Open glove compartment door and carefully remove the two trim caps as shown. Remove the eight securing screws and single 10 mm bolt as shown.

NOTE:
Carefully pry off plastic trim caps from two center securing screws for reuse. These two securing screws MUST be reinstalled in original location.

2. Pull out glove compartment assembly from dashboard and remove all electrical wiring connections.

3. After removing the glove box assembly remove the passenger side interior trim panel from under the glove box.

4. See Figure 2. Using the dimensions shown in Figure 2, position alarm module mounting bracket on underside (black side) of removed trim panel.

Use the mounting bracket as a template and mark position of the four holes in the bracket.

IMPORTANT:
NOTE ORIENTATION OF BRACKET POSITION IN FIGURE.

5. Drill the two end holes for bracket mounting using a 5.5 mm (7/32") drill bit.

Drill the two center holes using an 8 mm (5/16") drill bit.

6. See Figure 3A. Turn trim panel over and remove 5" section of insulation as shown. Alarm module mounting bracket will be mounted to this side of trim panel.

7. See Figure 3B. Secure the alarm module mounting bracket to the trim panel with supplied hardware as shown.

8. See Figure 3C. Position the alarm module into the mounting bracket as shown. Antenna port must face towards rear of vehicle. "BMW SECURITY SYSTEM" text must face towards driver side of vehicle. Secure alarm module into bracket using screws provided. Install screws from trim side (black side) of trim panel.

9. Position velcro strip on each side of control module as shown. Velcro will act as padding between module and in-vehicle components.

10. Insert alarm wire harness connector (green) into alarm module port marked "MAIN CONNECTOR".

HINT:
Once alarm wire harness has been connected to module, tie wrap alarm wire harness to alarm module mounting bracket to secure wire harness and insure proper harness routing.

11. See Figure 4. DO NOT reinstall passenger side interior trim panel with alarm module mounted until final wiring is completed.

CAUTION:
When reinstalling this assembly ensure that vertically mounted alarm control module fits into void between ABS/ASC control module and electrical carrier.

12. Route alarm wire harness to the area of the factory installed 12 pin alarm connector.
