Checking/Replacing 4/2-Way Valve For VANOS

Switch off ignition.
VANOS control unit connector is located behind oil filter and tied back on engine wiring harness.







Remove air guide for alternator.
Disconnect plug.







Remove VANOS solenoid valve.

Installation:
Tightening Torque = 30 Nm
Check seal, replace if necessary.







Move plunger back and forth to ensure that it moves easily.







CAUTION! The valve piston of the hydraulic piston may only be moved back and forth 5 to 6 mm during the check. Failure to observe this will result in damage to the running surface.
Move valve piston of hydraulic piston back and forth 5 to 6 mm and check for ease of movement.
If the hydraulic piston can only be moved with difficulty, replace the complete adjustment unit (VANOS).
