Ignition System With Static High Tension Distribution

DESCRIPTION
A separate output stage-controlled ignition coil is provided for each cylinder which supplies high tension (up to 32 kV) via the spark plug connectors to the spark plugs. This makes it possible to quickly and independently control changes in the ignition timing (ignition angle).

Due to the lack of any rotating parts, the effective range for ignition timing (angle) control has been increased by approx. 10° crank angle to 59° crank angle per cylinder. A camshaft sensor is used to maintain the correct firing order.

The spark plugs feature sealed ground electrodes which reduce burn-off wear and increase the change intervals.
