Description of On-Board Diagnostic System

Notes on the BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM:

General:

The terminal R (ignition switch in position 1 or 2) must be switched on to start the diagnostic procedure. The ignition can be switched off again and the ignition key removed from the ignition switch after output of the identification page.

Note:

In a series of modules, the diagnostic procedures can only be started when the vehicle is unlocked and the terminal R is switched on. However, also in this case, the ignition can be switched off again and the vehicle locked after output of the identification page.

Test Procedure:

The *D* Test procedure (BMW MODIC *D* Status monitoring) makes it possible to check all components and contacts which have an influence on the control of the interior lights.

Activation of Interior Lights:

It is possible to activate the interior lights as part of the guided test procedure. However, activation is only possible when:
- the vehicle is unlocked
- the ignition switch is in position 1 or 2.

The doors should also be closed otherwise the lights would be switched on without the activation function.

In the BMW MODIC, the lights are activated by way of *D* Component activation.
