Code 73 (Throttle Position Sensor)

THROTTLE POTENTIOMETER
Explanation
This trouble code is stored when a:
- A break or short at the throttle potentiometer or on its supply wires
- Mechanical defect. e.g. defective connection to throttle valve.
- A constant 14% throttle opening is output at the Digital Motor Electronic (DME) control unit output Pin 73.

Troubleshooting
- Perform status monitoring.
- Proceed with displayed scan tool diagnostic instructions where applicable.
- Connect test adapter 611 491 between the wire harness and potentiometer.
- Check 5 V supply at terminal 1/3. Check resistance at potentiometer.
- Check mechanical connection of throttle valve.
