Fuel Pump Relay: Locations

Electronics Box (E-box)

The electronics box (E-box) is located in the right rear corner of the engine compartment. The cover is held in place with captive screws. The E-box is cooled by a two-speed electric fan. The fan runs on low speed when the engine is running. If the temperature in the box exceeds 44°C (111°F), the fan will run on high speed.

E-box 735i/iL and 740i/iL

1. Main DME relay
2. Fuel pump relay
3. Oxygen sensor heater relay (not used on all models)
4. Cruise control module (exc.models with EML)
5. DME control module
6. ABS traction control module

CAUTION:
Relay positions are subject to change and may vary from car to car. If questions arise, an authorized BMW dealer is the best source for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

A good way to verify a relay position is to compare the wiring colors at the relay socket to the colors indicated on the applicable wiring diagram.

Engine compartment, 74Oi/iL

1. Air filter housing
2. Windshield washer fluid level sensor
3. E-box
4. Data link (diagnostic) connector
5. Coolant level sensor
6. Heater core control valve (below cover)
7. Brake fluid level sensor
8. ABS hydraulic control unit
9. Auxiliary relay panel

In the E-box at the right rear of the engine compartment.

#1 = DME main relay
#2 = Fuel pump relay
#3 = Oxygen sensor relay

NOTE: Depending on the model of the car, the installation for the relays may differ. When in doubt, extract different relays to check whether the desired function-interrupt has been achieved.
