Checking Timing Chain and Camshaft Timing

Checking Timing of Camshafts




- Turn crankshaft until piston in cyl. no. 1 is at TDC.




Valves of cylinders 1 and 7 are closed.
Dowel pins in the camshafts face in.




- Adjust engine to TDC position with Special Tool 11 2 300.




- Hold both camshafts with Special Tool 11 3 190.

If all of the above conditions are met and Tool 11 3 190 sits flush with cylinder head, the camshaft timing is correct. If necessary, adjust camshafts as described in "Remove and Install Upper Timing Case".
