SUBJECT:
Battery Replacement interval for Remote Locking/Unlocking System
MODELS:
540i vehicles produced 9/93 and later; all 1994 and 1995 8 Series (E31)
GENERAL INFORMATION:
The above mentioned vehicles are equipped with a remote locking and unlocking system that is also the only means of arming and disarming the Anti-Theft System (DWA IV).
For this reason, the batteries in the remote control transmitters (both transmitters) should be replaced at each Inspection.
The customer must be advised (when the service appointment is made) to bring all transmitters when the vehicle Is brought in for the inspection. Please ensure that all of your service personnel are aware of this requirement.
Have the new batteries (P/N 61 35 8 364 946; quantity 2 per transmitter) ready to install before the transmitter is opened to remove the old batteries. This replacement must be performed in less than one minute (per transmitter) in order to avoid loss of initialization. These batteries are also available locally (Varta CR2016).
Test each transmitter for correct operation after battery replacement. If either transmitter loses its initialization, both must be reinitialized. Refer to Service Information bulletin 66 01 93 (3921).
FOR VEHICLES COVERED BY THE BMW MAINTENANCE PLAN:
Batteries are to be provided free of charge to the customer. The notation that the batteries have been replaced must be handwritten on the 1994 Service Maintenance Checklist.
FOR VEHICLES NOT COVERED BY THE BMW MAINTENANCE PLAN:
The cost of the batteries should be added to the charges for the inspection. The notation that the batteries have been replaced must be handwritten on the 1994 Service Maintenance Checklist.
Note:
This item will be added to the 1995 Service Maintenance Checklist.
