Code 1 (Fuel Pump Relay)

FUEL PUMP (EKP) RELAY
Explanation
This trouble code is stored when a break or short occurs at:

- Relay for electrical fuel pump

- Wire from Digital Motor Electronic (DME) control unit Pin 1 to Fuel Pump Relay (EKP) relay

- Output stage in the DME control unit

NOTE: If the defect occurs in the DME control unit for cylinders 1 to 6, the Electronic Transmission Control (EGS) takes up the emergency program.

Troubleshooting
- The Fuel Pump Relay (EKP) relay must switch on from starting speed - check with test lamp 12 V 10 W at terminal 85/86.
- The Engine Speed Signal-Once Per Revolution (TR) is output, when the engine is running, at Pin 1 of the DME control unit for cylinders 1 to 6 and is routed via the EKP relay to the EGS control unit.
- Proceed with displayed scan tool diagnostic instructions if applicable.
