Distributor: Service and Repair

The distributor on these models is used only to direct secondary spark voltage and is an integral part of the timing cover. Only the distributor cap and rotor can be serviced separately.

1. Disconnect upper air cleaner, air inlet hose and air mass sensor, position aside.
2. Remove splash covers from distributor cap and ignition wires.
3. Mark location of high tension ignition wires on distributor cap for installation reference.
4. Secure water pump shaft with holder tool No. 11 5 030, or equivalent, to prevent shaft from turning.
5. Use wrench tool No. 11 5 040, or equivalent, to remove lefthand threaded nut of fan and clutch assembly
6. Remove cooling fan and clutch.
7. Remove distributor cap retaining bolts, then the cap.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
