SUBJECT:
False Alarms Caused By Glass Breakage Sensor
MODEL:
3 Series (E36) - including 318ti and Z3
Situation:
The alarm may be sporadically triggered by the Glass Breakage Sensor. This can be confirmed BY the "3 Blink - Pause - 3 Blink - Pause" pattern of the alarm LED after disarming the alarm.
Cause:
Noise sources inside the Alarm Module, arising from thermal expansion and contraction, can be detected by the Glass Breakage microphone and cause the alarm to be set off for no apparent reason.
Correction:
On a customer complaint basis, and only if the false alarms are caused by the Glass Breakage Sensor, replace the Alarm Module with a module bearing a green dot (P/N 82 11 1 469 868).
Note:
New alarm installation kits that contain a module bearing
P/N 82 11 1 469 445 and a green dot have the same modifications as P/N 82 11 1 469 868.
Refer to the procedure included. Pay particular attention to the setting of the dip switches within the Alarm Module.
Important:
To minimize the inconvenience to the customer, instruct the customer to bring all remote transmitters with the vehicle when the vehicle is brought in for this repair. All transmitters must be initialized to the replacement alarm module at the same time.
